The pieces in regular chess are so one-dimensional! They just blindly do whatever you tell them to do, and to make it worse, they're all silent! I rate it 0/5 stars on Goodreads.

This version of chess fixes that! Now instead of being soulless automatons, the pieces are thinking creatures, who will react either positively or negatively to your moves, depending on their personality. You'll have to work to keep them in line-- they're very vocal with their complaints.

The personalities in the game are:

  • Bloodthirsty: Loves capturing pieces, but dislikes when a quarry gets away, and hates it when you tell them to pass up a capturing opportunity.
  • Cowardly: Cares more about saving their own skin than actually winning the fight. Needless to say, doesn't enjoy being put into danger, unless they have way more protection than they really need.
  • Entitled: These pieces think they're the hot stuff. That they're the star of everything! So naturally, they tend to get antsy when you leave them alone for long enough. Too long, and they'll start complaining about how you're not giving them attention. Luckily, they can be brought back to their usual selves by moving them only once.
  • Gentle: Dislikes violence, and believes it should only be used when absolutely needed. Hates being made to capture pieces, but loves having the opportunity to protect another piece or stand in the way of an oncoming attack.
  • Stoic: The veterans of the army, these pieces are very good at not letting their emotions get to them during battle. However, after all the battles they've endured, they do have a breaking point. If you lose too many of your ally pieces, the stoic may snap and not be able to take the horrors of war any longer.

Treat your pieces well, and they might let you make a move that they wouldn't be comfortable with. Treat them poorly, and they might disobey you, or worse, potentially desert or even defect to the other side!
